Read the Constitution and pass the ammunition. They’d be the same as any terrorist or invading country and would be responded to as violently as necessary.

I actually had to think about this a couple of minutes (sad to say). What would I, personally, really DO? Lay low and hope for the best? Try to get out of the country? I knew I sure as hell WOULDN’T cooperate. And, I knew I could NOT stand idly by while homosexuals or people of color or other endangered people were persecuted. Then, proudly, I realized that I would defend, with force, what my ancestors fought for. I’d probably die in the attempt, but so what? How could I live if I didn’t try? I know this sounds corny. I don’t care. I already have no problem with defending me and mine on the off chance that someone comes into my home and tries to cause harm. (I can’t understand people who won’t have guns in their house. How are they going to defend themselves and the people they love in a society where criminals are heavily armed? If it’s me or them, I choose me and mine!) So, what’s the difference? My country IS my home. Fuck ‘em.

Are you shitting me? I’ve wanted to kill every monotheist on earth for years. A Christian Taliban throwing out the Constitution in favor of Leviticus would the the cassus belli I’ve been waiting for.

The Constitution’s 1st Amendment does not just cover freedom from religion, it protects freedom OF religion. I’d be the first to pick up a weapon to defend Christians if someone started knocking them off for their beliefs.
BTW, this isn’t a blog to vent hatred towards people, but to express disdain for certain destructive ideologies.
If you’re looking for a platform to express hatred of the religious, you’ve come to the wrong place.

I think you took Angriest Atheist too literally. I always say I hate humans, but I volunteer to teach adults how to read, I give at least 1% of my income to groups that fight hunger, poverty, a la Peter Singer, and I’ll help anyone I encounter any way I can if they appear to need help. But then I’m also fervently hoping Supreme Court Justice Scalia will die suddenly……
Saying you want to do something or will do it are different things. I always wanted to kill my mother because she was pyschotic and made life miserable for me and everyone around her. I didn’t kill her, and even took care of her affairs for the 7 years she had Alzheimer’s and she was in assisted living. When I look back on my childhood I am almost surprised I didn’t try to kill her.
But I have never killed or harmed anyone. Yet. I believe we all are much more capable of killing than we think we are.

I understand the difference between wanting and doing, but the problem is that I have many different kinds of people visiting my blog and I don’t want it to ever be said that I allowed what could be termed as “hate speech” to go unchallenged. For example, I actually used to enjoy reading Robert Spencer’s Jihad Watch, but eventually gave up on it because the racist comments rarely (if ever) get challenged.
I have nothing against Angriest Atheist. Believe me, I too have my days, but I have a responsibility to my readership and to other atheists to present a balanced and positive face, even if I do come off as militant and in-your-face at times. I made a choice to put myself out here to blog about atheism. If, even by omission, I do harm to the cause then I would be devastated. Above all, do no harm.
You seem to have had much pain in your life. I have as well, and you have my empathy. Best to do that which promotes life and happiness.

Have you heard of The Handmaid’s Tale ? If the Republic og Gilead became a reality, I would probably become a Nick, the fifth-columnist. Plus, my christianese is pretty good.

Then again, I would most likely be shipped to the “colonies”, given my looks and accent.

And yes, I’d hear of the book, but never read it. I had to Wiki it to see what you were talking about. The internet is a wonderful thing :-)

I saw the movie. Chilling! People who think they really want a theocracy should be required to watch it.

Unless….you are wanted by a roving band of beautiful women. In that case, it would be better to just let yourself be captured.

Yes I would be willing to die or kill to defend the US Constitution. I figure if something like this was to happen, many that would welcome it when it first happens wouldn’t take long to decide they screwed up. I know there would be plenty of others that would be willing to join and doubt it would last long as the rule.

I find most fanatics to be intransigent. I think they’d fight to the last person.

Yeah the fanatics following those in power would probably get into it extremely hardcore. The other fanatics that are on the receiving end will change their minds about a theocracy. I have known a few that would support one and I don’t really think they understand what would happen to those in the minor christian religions.

    Hmmm…

You might want to put a, Flee the country, option too.

Me? I picked the last option.

Good point. I actually considered the get-the-hell-outta-Dodge option, but it would have been the only one that was potentially 100% dependent on a person’s financial status. Many people, if given an option and possessing the means, would leave the country.
The options given level the playing field, so to speak.

        Understood.

What’s really scary are the people who chose the, “Constitution is a scrap of paper”.

I’d be interested in debating folks who chose the disobedience option.

When I joined the army I swore to uphold and defend the constitution. I did not swear to defend the president or congress. I have been out of the Army for years, but I still take that oath seriously. The constitution is not perfect, but I consider it to be one of the better documents produced by our species. Because it is a secular governing document I would still be more than willing to defend it with violence if necessary.

I think you’d have to fight, wouldn’t you? I mean, their bible says that they must kill nonbelievers. It would be kill or be killed.

Maybe you should start an atheist militia and provide training to some of us who are moderately clueless about such things. If I was part of an atheist militia, maybe it wouldn’t annoy me so much with those pesky Christians called me “militant.”

When I have the time I’m seriously considering it.
However, it would have to be above board 100% and in compliance with all state, federal and local laws.
Also, no crazy Rambo stuff, no seditious talk or literature and absolutely nothing involving hate of the religious or anyone.
Knowing this crowd, hate or sedition shouldn’t be a problem. :-)

Damn it sounds like you want to take all the fun out of being in a militia group. Would we still be allowed to act as if anyone not in line with us aren’t real Americans?

What if I don’t want to die? What if I just want to publish pornographic photos of your mother in local Sydney media instead? I’d prefer to do it in person, if you don’t mind.
